Word of the Day - exacerbate

Liz decided, as we were getting ready to photograph the aurora, to fiddle with the controls on her camera, buttons which she hadn't touched in eleven years, and didn't know what they were for.
Subsequently, her camera locked up and she was unable to get back to the settings she was accustomed to; thus resulting in a minor melt-down on the Ingraham Trail. Lol
Instead of exacerbating ("exacerbate" - to make worse) the situation by being reactive, I calmed her down with a hug and some soothing words.
She was then able to focus and figure out the proper settings for her camera, and shot the aurora photo in the previous post:
ISO 800
Aperture 3.5, 20-second exposure, using self-timer and tripod.

Leavin' Town . . .

Yes, it is "spectacular" Northwest Territories

We set the alarm for 2 a.m. in hopes the storm and clouds would have dissipated. Driving to a remote area with no light pollution, others also dotted the roadways enroute.
The display was phenomenal! Totally moving. Dirk captured many images. I only a few, following a moment of self-induced camera rage . . . lol.

"The map has the appearance of being reliefed."

Mayhem in the Rejuvenator!!!!

Day 11

Old Town

Old Town

Memories of Marrakech!

Good day yesterday fishing unknown and Pickerel Lakes. Lots of bites, no takes. Did land a few pike though.

Then -- got stuck in a HUGE mudhole. Dirk was able to get us out in first gear. Worried for a bit. Car is coated in clay-like mud now.

Checked into our Air BnB room. Absolutely pristine. We're here for a couple nights' treat. As rugged as we are, we enjoyed having all amenities at hand.

Gonna try Great Slave today if not too rough.

We Hit a Pike Nest Yesterday

Rain Day . . .

Northwest Voyageur

Prelude Lake, NWT

Beauty on Prelude Lake

We Made It!!!

After a year-and-a-half of planning, saving, yard sales, organizing, seven nights on the road and5,247 Kms later, we are here.
Now, a few days to fish, photograph the sites and relax.
I think we've earned this.
(And we're still talking to each other, lol.)

On our way to Yellowknife

A rough night in Fort Providence, along MacKenzie River. Very rough community. Not a restful sleep -- combined with park warden warning us of black bear in area and to make sure we lock up our foodstuffs; however, upon waking at 2:00 a.m., amid a strange glow inside tent, we experienced a most beautiful surprise --a spectacular aurora show! I wakened Dirk immediately, and there we were with our cameras 'til 3 a.m. in bear country trying to capture. Very special memories made.

Champagne at the 60th!!

We're now headed to the first fishing hole we come to!!

To NWT.

Leaving Cache, heading to High Level.

Very remote. Long dirt road in, only three of us there.

Another inspection station.

The Rejuv had to undergo another watercraft inspection. Very stiff on their regs here in Alberta.

Supply Stop in Hinton.

Heading farther north now. Picked up fuel and filled gas can. No gas for next "few" miles.
Dirk strapped it to underside of canoe.
Northward bound! Grizzly territory.

Breakfast in B.C.

Solar eclipse

Gettin' our feet wet in glacial waters!

Onward.

Having troubles with connectivity in mountains. We imagine it won't improve the farther up we are.

The Rejuv Gets a Goin' Over!

We just passed through a mandatory watercraft inspection station! We had to pull in to have the canoe inspected. Too funny.

BIG Belly Laugh

Dirk: "Word of the week -- Alzheimer -- because we keep forgetting to post our word of the day, in addition to forgetting the actual word of the day."

Liz: "Bahaha!"

Canadian Tire Swift Current.

Look at all the guns. Lol

NEYS Provincial Park

Let's roll.

NEYS Provincial Park, Lake Superior

Day 2 all packed up

Day 2.

Cool rainy night at NEYS provincial park. Pulled in around 8pm. Setting up in the rain. We both got soaked. A quick trip to the laundry in the park and our clothes are dry again. Late night. Tent was a little wet inside.
We got up, packed up and on the road by 10. A little later then we planned, But we wanted to look around park for a bit.
Next stop Thunder Bay. Then on to Kenora. Looks like we're leaving the rain behind us. Hopefully better weather ahead of us.

Rain Hammering Down for last Two Hours

Had to make emergency mods on canoe tie downs. Copious amounts of water coming in!

Starting out.

On the road at 5am. Only one hour later then we planned. Lol
Cars packed, canoes loaded, Liz has her coffee, and we're excited.
First stop, Sudbury.

A few last minute preparations on the go now for NWT, but overall, the Civic nation-wagon (LOL) is loaded. We actually have room to spare. Managed to get wobbly cargo platform tightened up, but load is sitting too low to ground. If we can't find an extension tonight at Princess Auto to raise it up, we'll be thinking up ingenious ways to load our gas can and other supplies! lol

I've forgotten just how much work a long road trip like this is, just to get out of the driveway.
